In the past our kids have been moved to a toddler bed by 13/14 months because we had a new baby that would need the crib. We always did it at least a month or so before the new baby was to come to make sure that they didn't feel they were being pushed out or taken over in any way.
Well, we don't have a baby on the way so we had no need to move him. I decided that it was time and hence the purchase of Bailey's bed. While I was gone on Friday picking up our car from the shop my sweet hubby cleaned all of the glass off of Bailey's bed so we could get it set up when I got home. I didn't purchase a frame or headboard or anything to go with it so for now it is just a mattress set on the floor, but she loves it!!!!
Brendon loves his new found freedom. Too much so if you ask me. He does alright at night when it is time for bed, but naps are another story. Now that he can get out, he does. I am currently using the sleep separation technique to see if that will work. I am just waiting until he finally realizes the boundary and will just stay on his bed. Suddenly he is waking up at night as well. I don't know if he used to wake up, but maybe would just roll over and go back to sleep. Now, he is up at least once every night. I usually go in there to make sure he is OK and then let him cry himself back to sleep. He is fine and I don't want him to continue in the habit of waking up. Even with its difficulties - it is fun to see him as a toddler rather than a baby in the crib.

Ah--this is my world right now too! Abby is in a toddler bed now for about a week. The first two nights she woke up once and came out (and it was a little of a challenge to get her in the bed the in the first place). But by night 3 things were improving mucho! phewsh! However, I haven't figured out the nap thing yet. And boy does she still need a nap! Let me know if you have any good ideas!
Our transition to toddler beds have been same as yours (new baby coming, you are out!), except for Jonah, who is now 2. At 18 months after moving here, we put him on a mattress on the floor and he too started waking up every night whereas he had been sleeping through the night before. Now he gets out of bed once a night and I walk him back to bed. Sometimes he wakes up to go potty (is Brendon potty training by chance? maybe that is why he is waking up).
