There is a moment when a mother's heart just seems to stop. That happened yesterday when the little neighbor girls that Alexis had been playing at the home of came running to the door to tell me she has been attacked by a dog.
The home was literally around the corner, but not knowing what to expect or how long I would be gone I had to quickly load up all of the kids and drive around the corner from my home. Moriah's mom was desperately trying to keep Alexis calm when I got there.
Moriah's family had decided to go to the movie so Lexi started to walk home. The dog next door to Moriah dug out from under the gate right as Lexi was walking by. This dog came charging, jumped and bit her on her left thigh. She turned and ran screaming the opposite direction and it got her again on her right calf. The skin was broken, but not terribly at all.
Thankfully, it was much less severe than I was picturing as I was leaving my house. Still I wasn't sure what to do. Josh is out of town and I couldn't get in contact with him. I called my friend, Trisha Willard, to find out what she would do. She dropped everything and came over to help me. Her husband, Scott is a med student. He was already on his way home so he also stopped by to look at it and let me know what he thought. It was decided that we should just monitor her for a couple of days to see how she is doing. Scott then gave Lexi a priesthood blessing. In the blessing she was promised that no adverse reactions would come from this injury. Immediate peace washed over me.
I am thankful that it was not "bad". I am also thankful for the priesthood. And I am also thankful for friends that I can call on when I need them and they drop everything to come to my rescue!!!!!! Thank you Trisha! You are and Scott were a lifesaver for me last night!!!!

That looks like it hurts :( Give her some extra love from us.
As a owner of two dogs, I personally would have approached authorities to put the dog down.
There is absolutely NO EXCUSE at all for a dog to go running around biting young and vulnerable children.
This shows poor training and respect of the dog's owner!
My husband is currently a detective, and this also involved removing pets and children from their home/unsafe environments. The horror stories he tells me about untrained and unloved pets.....
Seriously, do look into that...
Get well Lexi! Not all dogs are like that. Most dogs are so loving and kind.
As a follow up. I did file a complaint with the HOA in our community as well as file a report with the Pima Animal Control. They are currently investigating the situation.
It was a hard decision as to what to do. That is where we started. I do feel it was an accident and just wanted the incident on record. At this point, I hope that the dogs don't get taken away. But I do hope this is a wake up call for that owner.
