Today is the day

Ok, so the day was actually yesterday, but I did mean to post this last night. Somehow the day slipped away before I could. Too many things to do so this had to wait.

We went from this....
To this....

Yesterday was our official start to potty training B Boy. With the encouragement from his sisters (mostly because they thought he was in the way and wanted him gone), he has gone on the potty many times in the past. It was when he needed to change his diaper or getting ready for the shower. Still he was interested in it for quite some time. The problem - Mom's time. I have been so busy and sick over the last few months that I just kept putting it off later and later. Last week I kept telling him that starting this week we would put him in "Big Boy" underwear. Come Monday morning I still hadn't pulled it out of the bin and was still busy with other things. I thought, maybe I can wait until next week or until.... or until.... Of course, then would the date actually come if I kept doing that? Then at 11:30 I finally just decided that I needed to do it now and get it over with.

With the girls we used the "Potty Training in Less Than a Day" method. It worked VERY well for them. However, now I have a boy. I no longer have the book to see if there is any big difference. In addition, I just don't think B Boy is just as advanced as the girls were - even though he is my oldest to train age wise. Still - we will adapt the method a bit and see where it gets us. Josh and I had talked about it and decided we would have him start with "sitting" to get used to going and knowing when to. Then we can change him up later to a "standing" position. I have seen numerous nephews and friend's kids train and mostly is goes everywhere in the beginning. I didn't want that. I don't have time for all of that clean up either. Plus, I don't think I could handle the constant smell. (I have been getting sick again lately and smells are really starting to bother me.)

So, we are off. I made a potty chart and put it on the door of the bathroom. Every time he goes he gets one candy and one sticker. If he does #2 he gets two of each. At the end of each row of 10 is "TOY". When he fills up a row with stickers Josh already got him a huge bag full of Hot Wheels - Speed Racer Cars. He wants them all NOW and is excited to go potty because he understands that if he does it enough he will get cars. He got his first one last night about 30 minutes before bed time. He didn't want to go to bed - he just wanted to play with that car. It was the first thing he found this morning as well.

Enjoying his first candy reward yesterday...
He kept his underwear dry through nap time yesterday and also through the ENTIRE night last night!!! Wahoo. The Big Boy training underwear we have came from my sister and in the bag were two underwear covers. I had never seen those before, but I was excited to use them "just in case". They remain clean and unsoiled. YEAH for B Boy!!!! He did have two accidents yesterday, but was very unhappy as soon as he did. He wanted it cleaned and over with. His saddest part is that he doesn't get a candy or sticker if he starts out with an accident. He had another accident just before we sat for scripture study this morning and we couldn't start until Josh calmed him down about why he wasn't getting a candy or sticker.

Still, he is very excited and very anxious to earn all of his cars. Yesterday he brought me the camera and said, "I smile, I big boy" and insisted on me taking his picture so this is my happy smiling B Boy...

Yeah for Brendan! We started G out sitting. I haven't heard of starting a boy out standing. They're too short to reach most of the time. Although I think we transitioned to that at about three (6 months+ potty trained). It sounds like he's doing great! Good luck :)

Hooray Brendon! Potty training is such a big task, I'm dreading it with Noah :( He's showing lots of interest, and I'm just not feeling motivated. Oh well. Sounds like Brendon is doing great, so wonderful! Hope you are doing okay!

I always thought potty training would be SO difficult, but Kamryn was so simple. I'm anxious to hear how it is with a boy. It sounds like he's ready!! Good luck.

Yeah for Brendon! Whew - what a big boy now. I can't believe what a little man he's turning out to be. Thanks for the comments on my blog Trish...I don't ever get dis-couraged...too much has happened to get down about the next phase - but thanks for everything.
