Before and After

You may remember a post I did clear back in January. It was a crazy weekend with Josh being gone and I backed my car straight into the house. Yes, for those of you who didn't read that post, that is exactly what I just said. I backed the car into the house. You will just have to read it to believe it.

It only took a week to quickly get the car fixed, but I just never made the time to get the house fixed. Our very kind neighbor, Josh Williams, who had helped me clean up the mess gave us a bucket of Stucco repair. And on the shelf in my office it sat for weeks and weeks. Every time I walked by it, I would think - "I really need to take care of that!" Finally the beginning of this month I did it. One Tuesday morning I just took it out there and worked for about an hour to patch up the big mess. It wasn't until I was working on it that I realized there was a bit more damage on it than I had thought all these months.

After letting that set for many days to fully dry, Friday I got out the paint to realize that the paint the builders gave us was Semi-Gloss and not flat. Before realizing this I had already done a large amount of touch up. Who wouldn't? The paint was out, I was working on it, so naturally I touched up. Then a couple of hours later I went out to see how it was progressing - OH NO!!!!!! It seriously looked like our garage door and some of the surrounding trim had been shot up with a paint ball gun!

I couldn't handle it. The next morning I headed over to Dunn Edwards and asked for the same paint, but in flat finish. I took it home, did some research to find out how best to do it with flat going over semi-gloss. And again started to get to work. Only to see that the color I had was NOT the color of the trim and garage door. At this point I was saying, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME????" I pulled down our binder the builder had given us. I double checked the trim color. Sure enough - I did get the correct one. That means they did not paint our trim the stated color. Just one more reason added to the list as to why I will never purchase another DR Horton home again in my life!!!!!!

So, I geared up for a little more painting that anticipated. I painted the entire garage door and all of the trim around it. It is close enough to the other trim color that only those really looking for it (now that I announce it to the world) will notice that one is lighter than the other, but when it was on the same door it was blatantly obvious. So, here are my before and after pictures. In the current photos, you can see the difference in color. The lower trim and garage door is lighter than the original color trim.

Good for you though to see the project through to the end. I think I would have given up long ago!

great job, stucco is tricky and don't get me started on paint colors! ACE has my vote for matching any paint chip and getting the right color. You can't even tell in the pictures, the color looks great. I feel your pain when "easy" or "simple" projects snowball like that!

Well, I am impressed, that is for sure! There is no way I could have done that! I think it looks great! Way to go Trish!!!

I HATE when that happens with paint touch ups and repairs around the house.

Believe me, you are not the only one to do that around the house.

Someday I will get around to repainting the living room/preschool room because I just can't get the paint color to match. The Expedit is hiding the obvious color differences in the patch up jobs etc.

So far, everything looks great in the last picture, looks brand new!
